Stupid, really stupid Cupid, and the Agony Maushi.

Are you the type who melts at the sight of cupids with suspended arrows on their pinky little bows? The one who yearn for the heart shaped boxes filled with Hershey’s ‘Hugs and Kisses’? Or whose girlfriend gives a tiny little kisshy n the tip if you nose for getting her flowers? Or may be the girlfriend of a guy who dare NOT forget the reason the flowery month of February seems to exist?
If you are, stop reading here.

Gandmasti ?
Ok fine read ahead.
I hate February. Reason minor: it’s NOT supposed 2 be 9.4°C when you’ve shoved away your sweaters.
Reason major:like every other month, this one’s got a 14th.
Think February think Valentine’s Day.
LOOOuuuuuVVVVEEE stories. New couples. ‘Ooooh he asked me OUUUUUTT’!!
So what? Alright, sour grapes to an extent. But for those of you who do have something to do on this day other than study for your boards, pray tell me, how has this one day been different than all those times you and your significant other have been coochie-cooing? Just because everyone else’s been doing the same too? Lame.
Peoples of the mighty homo sapiens sapiens race- Wakey wakey!!! It’s commercialisation. In-your-face. And true to our media-centred thinking, we fall for it. We (actually you, I’ve satisfactorily stayed away from the mush) spend a lot more on the one person we go ho-hum about than is reasonable. Okay, so every man to his own pocket. But why?
Because Archies/Hallmark/Expressions tells us that it’s the day some St.Valentine made immortal for spreading ‘loouuuv’. Spread loouuuv to the people who need it, not some one who’s alreay been around you grabbing all your attention all year long. Seriously, how d’you people develop the stamina to fuss over you lovey dove with more vigour? Do you, like, keep away from it for the rest of the year and ‘toot-padofy’ on the sacred day or something? Then again, ramblings of a non-experienced love-lorn journo, you may say. But from my point of you, we’re better off without VD than with it.
But I ask you, is it worth the hype? Isnt all that cheeku-meeku,my-shweety-pie thingy done all year long anyway? And if a guy does want to ask you out, or considering gender equality is grabbing balcony tickets everywhere, if the girl’s making the first move, wouldn’t he/she have done it sometime when he/she really thought he/she could cope with the burden of having your photo as the wallpaper of his/her phone? Or was he/she not sure enough whether it IS you who he/she fantasize about, and not that look-alike best friend of yours? Insult!!
Why the 14th of February? The S**v S**a in Maharashtra is already doing its bit to stop love from spreading, but who’d want to get kicked big-time in their a*s when Agony Maushi (me, stupid) is so patiently advising you to apply brakes before you fasten the seatbelt?
The card companies have NO intention of spreading that ickle bit of loouuuv in the world. You see, money is their best friend too, and they are so conveniently taking najaayaz faayda of your jawaani deewani and hypersensitive hormones to make money ki kya bolu.
My point, being in love is no crime, but shouldn’t you be expressing yourself throughout the year instead of waiting like a pakka chindhi for this one day so that you can get over with the pampering? Or am I getting the whole point wrong?

Spilling it out.

Friends aren’t perfect. A lesson I guess I learnt the hard way. And too late too. When two headstrong people get to be friends, with nothing more in common than that, the bond lasts as a strong one for maybe a few months, and then it weakens to the point that the friendship seems a burden more than anything else. And if the people involved are still trying to push it to work, they’re kidding themselves horribly.
Trust me, I know.
This one’s for a friend who made the right decision at the right time, before things got so sour that even I’d lose my temper, though she doesn’t know how thankful I am for that. I’m VERY patient, when it comes to people. She burst my bubble of stupid assumptions at such a point that it was neither too early nor too late. Another reason why I miss her. May be she even subconsciously knew that anymore of tagging along and we’d hate each other.
All those months we did know one another weren’t a farce. The friendship rose out of the need to find some sanity in the class of people who’d laugh at the most pervert jokes, a place to find comfort when Sirius Black was killed ruthlessly by Rowling, to fantasize about which one of us would marry which of the respective Adonis’s, perhaps a fictional Utopia we created comfortably to accommodate one another into our worlds. But fairy tales don’t have a happy ending real time. As much as I wanted to stay on as friends with that one person who could always guess what went wrong, and knew exactly what to say to get my back on the right track, I was kidding myself into trying make her my best friend, and trying to live out my dream of being her ‘ideal friend’ in turn.
But turns out neither of us were quite ourselves when we were with each other. Both had to watch our words just to make sure the other wasn’t hurt by them. Some thing I never thought she’d face and I can’t believe I was stupid enough to let happen to myself. But that’s the way it was. There were too many things that were slowly turning sour and constant eruptions of ‘“I’m-so-not-talking-to-you” “what-on-earth-did-I-do?”’ clouded the prospect of the friends-forever thing I had in mind. But I still didn’t have the pluck to let go.
To the friend I shall always respect for having broken the strings at the right cue, I still am disappointed that it should end this way. Had it been a little more amicable, perhaps I wouldn’t have to stare at the ground for those two-and half months you made me wonder if you could see me standing 3 feet from you. I can’t loathe you, no, because I’m just that way. Can’t hate anybody who’s made me stronger, and taught me so much by asking so less in turn, but I’ll still look forward to the time you can regard me as someone who existed in the same room as you did.
I’m glad you don’t feel the need of an apology, from either one of us to the other, because if we’re right in our own perspective, there’s no reason to be sorry.
I just want to thank you, for all the time you did spend happily with me, for making me a better friend to those who I know after that time you walked away, because even if I’m dyslexic when it comes to learning the more practical lessons in relations, I’m good at applying them, for everything that existed the time we’ve been friends.
And if we do meet at Malhar, I could wave at you and I’d be glad if you nodded in return.
Cheers.

And we never seemed to go ahead

Despite of the fact that i see wonder-boy,let's call him Super right now, every single day, i never ceased to find him cute. It's been a year since we first, and last spoke, and it's those undescribable awkward moments, when we come within a few feet of each other, it’s those awkward moments, when you cant seem to remember your resolution of even smiling at the person you talk to so often online, and the only way out is to turn your head and wish the earth would swallow you up. Takes me back to the second phase...

Part 2:And she used her brains

A little bit of a calculative and observational nature comes handy. He once stepped out of a classroom in the corridor when I was passing by, and this time only I saw him, I think. The next moment, an old friend of mine stepped out from the same classroom. Conversation began, and I eventually found out, that this in fact, was the FYJC, and now, I knew not only his standard (yippee!) but also, his division. Sly I also figured out his timetable.
I do feel like a stalker at times, I mentioned it earlier, but this was my closest encounter to being one. Hence manifesting my obnoxious tendency to exaggerate.
So here I was, I knew his class, timetable. But not his name.
‘Aate jaate khoobsurat aawara sadko pe
Kabhi kabhi ittefaaq se
Kitne anjaan log mil jaate hai
Unn mein se kuchh log bhool jaate hai
Kuchh yaad reh jaate hai’

And how!
A girl with a crush is definitely one thing I love being. Those random moments when songs just strike you as if they’ve been written for you. Stolen glances. Just knowing you have a reason to go to college.
It wasn’t as if he was the only cute guy around, you know, but this fellow, Super, was the most endearing of the lot.
Sheesh, 5 days more and I won’t be going to college. But I guess I’ll keep thinking about Super till I cease to think!

Down under

Aussies are deranged mongloids. No, i'm not a possessed cricket fan who prays for the well-being of the team every morning, its just a lil fact, which i'm sure will make even you agree with my say here.
harbhajan batting, or bowling or watevah..see i dont even know when the incidence happened. Andrew symmonds, who by now every conscious Indian has something against, passes him. Bhajji the great says something like 'teri maa ki' to the hairball.
if this incidence were to happen in our country, between two adults playing a crucial, tending to violent game of cricket, as were the circumstances in the above instance, such a statement,'teri maa ki', would have lead to the abuser as well as the abused being thrashed to death by the opponent teams. We are all mother worshippers, and hence, even a suggestion of an anti-momma word would definitely land someone in the hospital. As you all should know, what follows after the 'ki' in the 'teri maa ki' isn't the nicest thing to say abt anyone, least of all a mother.
case in point: mr.symmonds.i think he needs a haircut.or mebbe its his earhair we can see growing out..but whatever the growth is,its definitely addled his hearing ability.because as you oughta know unless you've been in a coma for the past week, andrew heard 'MONKEY'.
monkey??teri monkey??for goodness' sake, symmonds,no one gets racially offended if you abuse your non-existent pet monkey. or may be you do own one.but that's not the point. and racial??why on earth would someone call you a 'monkey' to abuse you,and bless you dear, no one from India, let alone our exhuberant Punjab, leaves it at monkey. and pray tell me, how does tht become racial?so we all are descendants of monkeys..
daa!!there it is!he thought harbhajan was abusing his ancestors!!..but i guess he went a lil deaf when hearing which one though.
Or may be, jus maybe, because they live on an isolated landmass, they feel really lonely and act this way when in company of humans. If i see ponting jumping about demented with joy at another victory,i'll be expecting him to carry his babies in a pouch next time.
Mr.Kumble, forgiveness is all divine, but make it clear they shouldn't act human to our god-likes, and err again.
and the cricket body is dumb enough to make this a case.sometimes i cant help but nod when they say the country's going to the dogs, or may be monkeys.what if they'd known wat the right thing was?but it still doesnt matter..'b******s' wasn't to offensive for them.
advise to harbhajan: your one lucky dog/monkey...(will i be sued for this??please do that, i could do with not answering a few papers.)

Confessions of a girl with a crush.

If I were my own psychiatric case, I’d call for help really fast. It amazes me how complex a human can be, and that too studying myself I can tell, by not being a serial killer, how close I am to his occupational, less hazardous cousin- the serial stalker. Obsession grips me at the drop of a hat, and I don’t stop at anything to get what I really, impulsively want.
My spectrum of interests is a small one, but its so maddening that people who say ‘never say die’ re the first to say, ‘hey get a grip’. And though I can certainly say I’m not getting the message through to you, I’ll leave it at that and rant about something else.
When you go to college, it’s not coincidence that you spot people and find a few cute. Really cute. Gorgeous even. And how I did see this particular guy is still another story I call my own little college love story. May be clichéd or so predictable you’ll be able to name the characters and tell me what’s to happen next, but for me, it’s my story, and just as important to me as yours to you.
So to make mine easier, and more important to me, I’m gonna write it in parts. Just the way it happened in phases.
Ready? I never was either!
Part 1: glances and that’s all.
It started at, surprise surprise, the college fest. Me standing in the audience. They were asking people to come on stage and dance (nope Pushkar its not you). Music in the background: ‘Dil na diya’ from kkrish.
Everyone’s prancing about, when a boy in a blue shirt comes up front and confidently does his bit with such grace, that the people who are watching are left with their mouths open. Me being one of them. He comes down after a few seconds and gets lost in the crowd.
I spot him again in college a few days later. So he has really clean eyes. Not big, not blue, not hazel. All I notice that they seem to look as if he’s just woken up and washed them. I have no idea who this boy is, even which standard he studies in. All I know now is that he dances well, wears good shirts, and has clean eyes.
And when he did look back at me, my face went red.

Consonants and Bowels.

Amazing what an induced insomniac with digestion problems can come up with at 4 in the morn. For all you dimwitted imps who couldn’t figure, 'induced insomniac with digestion problems' would mean me. I don’t remember having eaten anything out of place yesterday. Yesterday from any other day I’ve lived, as I can make a long list of 'what should not have been swallowed' for everyday except. But no-oh. The indigestion has to come, at a crucial point when you are 12 hours short of your prelim papers, and 16 of your big chemical bang.Facts that aren’t helping me right now: the BMC'S cut off the water supply for an indefinite period, and that I can’t seem to think of anything other than the Trojan horse, courtesy something I read yesterday. Also an intriguingly conscious conscience prickling incessantly pleading me to grab a chemistry book instead. 'If mum were awake....’. How is the world, so grown up, supposed to relate to the woes of a farty 17 year old?Other things that don’t make sense at the moment: 14 year old brother sitting up in bed, eyes wide open and yelling 'hello??helloooo??' into an invisible phone. Had I been a little more awake I would have rushed for the cell phone and recorded the git. Probably blackmailed him with it for the rest of his life. But for the life of me, I won't. Apparently I too talk in my sleep, and what disturbs me the most, is the point that my mum says I answer any question articulately and diligently in my sleep. Okay, I do have a clear conscience, but should I sue her for 'slander under semiconscious state'? You made me a Telgi.

Psychadellic i me myself in detail.

Future forecast??

It’s one of those days when you figure out how long you’ve been around. It starts with saying, ‘Yeah, I know’ to someone. For some reason those three words make me feel all grown up. I avoid using them. Like everything else, I’m in extreme swings of whether or not I want to stay a teenager, or grown into an adult, which shouldn’t be too difficult, or keep growing but act like a kid. The third option is the easiest, but quite a waste of time. I mean all of us have to start acting responsibly right? Okay, then again what am I rambling about?
I made a list of what all I’ll probably land up doing, or simply have to do by the age of 35. It’s an absurd list, but I really don’t remember promising sense on this blog (point to never forget: It’s me, Radhika, the Queen of random ramble, who dare question what I write on my blog?)
Phew. Here it is. All original, and as usual, conceived when I was supposed to be studying.
1. I’ll probably run away from one of my own weddings. Don’t know why but I’m rather sure about this one.
2. I think I can make a great single mum.
3. My job won’t be a stuck up 9-to-5 one.
4. I will write at least one book, and people who like reading will buy it. I don’t want it to be a best-seller, but it’ll be a collector’s delight.
5. My house will be in Mumbai city.
6. I will have at least one dog.
7. A live-in relationship shouldn’t be a problem.
8. My kids won’t go to a regular SSC school.
9. I will have a wall for all my photos.
10. I will have finished reading ‘Word Power’ by 20.
11. I will have a good Home Theatre set.
12. I will have a good car.
13. I should be in touch with all my friends.
It’s not the list the good girl should have. But it’s my list. And now I’m officially out of writing mood. So b’bye.

I met someone I knew today.

I first saw her writing her paper. They all were engrossed in making sure they were right. All but her. She doubted herself. The familiar frown, it felt as if she were finally trying hard enough to get there. She looked at me for a second, and turned away again, fearing that I might ask her to help me. But somewhere down inside, I knew I couldn’t ask her any thing, and I’m sure so did she. I moved on.
She had finally arrived, and she seemed happy.
Later I saw her with her friends. All laughing at something no one else would probably be able to make sense of. All but her. Her eyes were glazed, though the smile was genuine. It’s one of those times when you could make out she’d rather be alone. Yet again she was trying to keep everybody else happy, and no doubt making a good job out of it. But no one looked into her eyes today. I did. And the minute I did, she shut them. I will never know if she missed it, but I saw the dry tears. I moved on.
She stood alone for the bus. They came one after the other. Thoughts and thoughts she never thought she’d think. Everyone was busy frowning at the heat. All but her. The heat from outside was lesser than the fire raging inside. It cooled her down, but did she care? Her mind was away, her eyes still glazed and no one knew that. I felt the heat when I walked past her. How long could I ignore this? She saw me looking at her, and smiled yet again. Embarrassing though it was, I couldn’t help smiling back. She stood there, alone amidst the crowd. Absent-mindedly meddling with a thick strand of hair so familiar yet so strange with a finger.
How she longed to see those eyes again. The warm touch guiding her nowhere. The feeling of mothering something that has lost its way. A subtle feeling of rising power, like standing on a rock above the rest. The beauty of having known the right answers to unknown questions. It was freedom in its truest form, a freedom she craved to cradle once more. Then again, she was just a teenager. How could she have known so many wonderful things at once?
I had been walking without watching where I was going. Suddenly, I felt a slight bump on my shoulder. She smiled, and walked away.

Europe or bust.

once upon a time,a friend and myself made a resolution of packing our bags and setting off on a mission of exploring europe.the not-so-mysterious continent.one of the reasons i like myself is the fact that i agreed to be party to this teenage fantasy when i so bloody well know,i dont have a passsport yet.and my ssc certificate isnt proof enough of me being a harmless Indian.
once upon a time would actually imply 4 months back.not that i have a passport..but a lot has changed since.for instance, the idea of the outting is so at the back of our minds it's slipping down my medulla oblongata.for another,i'm slightly less interested than i was in the whole idea. i mean, the hardcore desi i am,why not look around in our vast adda instead of globe trotting and adding moolah to their piggie banks?
what makes it worse is that as of today, i'm better equipped than before in going out and being what i always dreamed of.smart (that's my opinion of myself regardless of what others think),rich(-er than what i was 4 months back, n that aint saying much),owner of a guitar (i bought it outta my pocket money..hah!),a goddamned beautiful camera and with enough post-it notes 2 cover 4 refrigerators (do ppl stick them on those neway?).
to add to the lists of 'why-i-shouldn't-b-going', is the mere fact that i think i've got more important things to attend to back here at home for me to choose a Europian getaway.makes me feel irresponsible actually.i'm the last bit of sanity left in this place (only in my opinion,of course).like who'll take the dog down to piddle in the morning?and, more importantly, who's gonna solve sudoku?well no,there are important things i cant leave behind, and getting outta the country isn't my idea of tackling stuff.what if just for a by then well-deserved vacation?
Europe may be the continent of snow and football and churches and an awesome religious heritage.but for some mundane reason,i'm simply not interested.that's called being frank to myself.if you take me to africa i'll probably be happier doing some huka muka dance than i ever will watching tall buildings.though i must admit the churches there intrigue me.courtesy:Dan Brown.the historical part is amazing of course, but how much of the holocaust can we actually relive?
the only europian i've ever been keen to learn about,is anne frank.all because she was a teenager who wrote diaries, got kissed 8 days before she was arrested, both first time but former more impotant, and died because of something she could possibly help.i wanted to read tht book.too bad its too expensive.Anne Frank was a girl who'd seen the same things as everyone else had,but the only one with the creativity to write it down having no idea how much fame it would fetch her posthumously.
And if i do change my mind and hop along to Europe,i'll let you know.but till then i just hope i survive the curiosity Anne Frank passed on to me about her own life.
